Police are asking for the public’s help to solve the murder of an Atlanta businessman.

Terry Porter was shot and killed outside his southwest Atlanta home early Monday morning.

Neighbors told police they heard a shot fired around 2:30 a.m. Monday, near the intersection of Gordon Street and Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard, police said.

Porter, 39, was found dead on the side of his home in the 1000 block of Gordon Street around 7 a.m., with his pockets pulled out, Atlanta homicide Detective Summer Benton said.

Investigators believe the motive was robbery since his cell phone and 2006 Range Rover were stolen.

Investigators are looking for the stolen SUV with Georgia license plate BIM9827.

“We have no witnesses,” Benton said. “If they see his vehicle, please call Crime Stoppers.”

Porter owned several businesses around the metro area, including a DeKalb County assisted living center, police said.

“He really helped out his family and helped out the community,” Benton said. “So anything the public can do to help would be greatly appreciated.”

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477. Anonymous calls are accepted and any information leading to an arrest or conviction is eligible for a reward.
