Burglars drove a vehicle through the front of a northeast Atlanta clothing boutique before daybreak Thursday, but Atlanta police later recovered some of the stolen merchandise from an apartment complex several miles away.

The burglars hit Fly Chix Atl on the ground floor of the Dynamic Metals Lofts in the 500 block of Edgewood Avenue around 4:30 a.m., according to police dispatchers.

“A witness reported that three vehicles were used during the theft and at least six perpetrators went inside and took items from the business,” Atlanta police spokeswoman Elizabeth Espy said.

Police issued a lookout on the vehicles, and a Zone 1 officer spotted all three vehicles about five miles away, in the 300 block of Lanier Street in northwest Atlanta, Espy said.

“The occupants of the vehicles fled at high speeds and the Zone 1 unit lost sight in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and I-20,” Espy said.

Officers returned to the Lanier Street location and recovered clothing from trash cans and a vehicle in the parking lot.

“The clothing items contained tags from Fly Chix and were returned to the owner,” Espy said.

She said police arrested one person, 25-year-old Makaiya Hart, on an outstanding warrant for grand larceny.

Two of the vehicles used in the burglary, a Lincoln and a Dodge Charger, were believed to have been stolen from the 600 block of Northside Drive on Wednesday, Espy said.
