An Atlanta man told police someone broke into his Midtown home Thursday morning and forced him to drive to Mercedes-Benz Stadium at knifepoint.

Officers were sent to the home in the 500 block of Amsterdam Avenue about 11:30 a.m. after receiving a call about a residential burglary, Atlanta police spokeswoman TaSheena Brown said.

A man told police someone forced his way inside the home, produced a knife and demanded a ride downtown, authorities said.

The homeowner told police he drove the knife-wielding man to the stadium before the guy hopped out of the car and left on foot, Brown said.

The homeowner was not injured during the encounter, police said, but investigators believe three homes were damaged by the burglary suspect.
