A 72-year-old Rockdale County man was tied up and robbed by two masked gunmen during a home invasion Saturday, deputies said.

Two men entered the home at an undisclosed address on the north side of the county before tying up the homeowner and helping themselves to his belongings, the Rockdale County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday in a Facebook post.

The victim, Darrell Motes, spoke to Channel 2 Action News about the incident, saying he was waiting on a delivery when he heard a knock on the door.

“He was pushing, trying to get in ... and he pushed me into the coffee table,” he said. “(A masked man) told me he was going to shoot me if I tried to do anything.”

As the men rummaged through Motes’ belongings, he said he was struggling to breathe on the floor, Channel 2 reported.

“I’m thinking I’m dying,” Motes said. “I thought I was having a heart attack or they were going to shoot me.”

The suspects loaded the stolen items into the man’s 2008 Chevrolet Impala before driving off in it, authorities said. They were later involved in a hit-and-run at Ga. 20 and Hi Roc Road before getting out and running away.

Deputies searched the area but could not locate the men. The sheriff’s office said it has identified “persons of interests” in the case, but investigators have not announced any arrests.

“The investigation is ongoing and due to time-sensitive information we are not able to provide more details,” the department said in a news release.

Anyone with information about the home invasion or the identities of the suspects is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 770-288-8188.
