A suspect was injured in a deputy-involved shooting in Pike County, officials said.

The shooting occurred Wednesday in the 3100 block of Roberts Quarters Road, the Pike County Sheriff’s Office said. The road is closed during the investigation.

Officials told Channel 2 Action News that deputies responded to the scene regarding an argument and the suspect began waving a gun in the air. A deputy was forced to open fire, Channel 2 reported.

No Pike County officials were injured. The suspect was taken to a local hospital and is in surgery, Channel 2 reported.

The GBI is investigating, which is standard protocol in officer-involved shootings.

The Pike County District Attorney’s Office is also on the scene.
