Two people are dead and another is in the hospital after a triple shooting Wednesday morning inside a Roswell condominium, according to police.

One of the victims called 911 around 1:30 a.m. to report the gunfire at the Roswell Pointe Condominiums on Lake Point Circle, Roswell police said. Officers found one man dead at the scene and the survivors were taken to a hospital, where the second victim died.

“The third remains hospitalized,” police spokesman Lt. Noah Caplan said in a statement.

All three victims are believed to be in their 20s.

“Detectives are currently investigating, trying to determine who else was involved in this and what led up to the incident,” Caplan told AJC.com from the scene Wednesday morning. “There is reason to believe there was drug activity involved based on what was recovered inside the residence.”

Roswell police believe the shooting was targeted and was not a random act. It is not known how the victims are connected or if any lived at the complex, which is located off Marietta Highway near Willeo Creek.

Detectives believe the shooting was drug-related based on what was found inside the condo, according to Roswell police.

Detectives went door-to-door at Roswell Pointe for several hours looking for witnesses. Caplan said police seldom respond to the complex.

“This is typically a very quiet neighborhood,” he said.

Jane Hoppe has lived in the neighborhood for 30 years and can remember only one other incident of gun violence, but it was related to a domestic dispute, she said.

Neighbors had been noticing an influx of people coming and going and suspected drugs were being sold in the complex. A group was taking down tag numbers to provide to police.

“We were hoping to get a plain clothes (officer) or something like that to watch, you know, and catch them out if possible,” Hoppe said.

They were building a case before reporting the alleged drug activity, she said. Hoppe was not surprised when her neighbor told her about the shooting Wednesday morning.

“We knew what was going on,” she said.
