Northgate High School and Canongate Elementary School in Coweta County released students while under a code yellow lockdown Tuesday, a district spokesman said.

The lockdown, initially a code red, was a precaution after a man with a gun was seen walking near the high school, school district spokesman Dean Jackson told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

The armed man was seen on Fischer Road, and sheriff’s officials notified school authorities, Jackson said.

“At no point was this individual on campus,” Jackson said. However, school officials operated under a code yellow lockdown out of precaution.

Deputies had the high school driveway entrance blocked as they searched for the man, Channel 2 Action News reported.
