A 13-year-old girl from Cobb County said she was attacked during a summer league basketball game at a south Fulton County high school and suffered a concussion.

Sunday’s game at Langston High School involving teams from Georgia and Texas allegedly erupted into a brawl after Jamiah Gregory, 13, was fouled hard, Fulton County Schools said in a statement.

Gregory was taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston after she said she was knocked down and hit by several opposing players, Channel 2 Action News reported.

“And (they were) like hitting me in the head and bashing it to the ground like that, and I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh,’” Gregory told Channel 2.

The fight was allegedly prompted when Gregory’s leg was grabbed by an opponent during the fourth quarter, and adults came out of the stands, Channel 2 reported. Parents told the news station that 40 to 50 people were involved.

“This girl just comes and grabs my player by the neck and throws her down,” Chris Henderson, Gregory’s coach, told the news station.

The Fulton County Schools Police and the South Fulton Police Department responded, the school district’s statement said. It was not a school- or district-sanctioned event.

“The security of our campuses — whether during school hours or over a weekend — is a priority for our district. Behavior, such as fighting, will not be tolerated,” the statement said.

The event’s organizer, D1Spects, told Channel 2 it had two security guards at the game and the incident wasn’t a brawl. Players, though, told the news station there was only one guard present.

Channel 2 contacted the Texas team’s coach, who would not comment on the incident.

No arrests were made, and an investigation is ongoing.
