Police are looking for a man who stole a vehicle parked outside a northeast Atlanta Burger King restaurant with a baby inside.

The vehicle, which was taken Monday morning from the Burger King in the 300 block of North Avenue, was found at Durant Place and 4th Street with the 1-year-old child in the back seat, Atlanta police spokeswoman Kim Jones said.

According to a police report, a woman went to the Burger King to see her fiancé, who works at the restaurant. She parked along the side of the building and left the child in the vehicle with the keys in the ignition, police said.

While the woman was inside, a man wearing a skull cap, a dark coat and blue jeans hopped in the driver’s seat, police said.

The woman ran outside, opened the door of the vehicle and tried to pull the man from the automobile. The man managed to put the vehicle in gear and speed away from the scene, police said. The woman said she was thrown from the vehicle and struck her head on the pavement.

Police were able to find the vehicle because the leasing company was tracking it, police said. The child was not harmed.

The investigation is ongoing.
