An Atlanta police officer caught an alleged rock-throwing robber Thursday minutes after authorities said the man used a stone to rob a bank.
The only damage, according to police, was to a hotel window.
Leon Robinson, 50, hurled a rock at a teller at Georgia’s Own Credit Union in downtown Atlanta just before 9 a.m. Thursday, Atlanta police Officer Kim Jones said.
According to Jones, Robinson “passed a note that stated: ‘This is a stick up. I got a gun. Give me all your money and you won’t get hurt.’”
Robinson left the bank, which is at the corner of Peachtree Street and John Wesley Dobbs Avenue, with an unknown amount of money.
A security guard spotted an Atlanta police officer writing a report near John Portman Boulevard and Peachtree Street and summoned him for help, Jones said. The officer approached Robinson, who made a move like he was going for a gun, she said. The officer fired, but the bullet ricocheted off a bag Robinson was carrying and hit a window at the Imperial Hotel, Jones said.
Another Atlanta police officer in the area ran to help, she said. That officer used his Taser on Robinson, who was subdued..
Robinson was charged with armed robbery.
