One person has been arrested in the shooting deaths of a young couple in front of their 3-year-old daughter, Powder Springs police said Tuesday.
But police offered no additional details, not even the suspect’s name, suggesting an additional arrest could be forthcoming.
Powder Springs police Deputy Chief Matt Boyd confirmed the arrest early Tuesday, but released no details.
“Due to the integrity of the investigation, we are not currently releasing the name or any circumstances surrounding the arrest,” Boyd said in an email. “This is still a very active investigation.”
Late Aug. 5, Anthony and Catherine Costner left home with their young daughter and said they were going to meet someone, Catherine’s brother said. Jordan Quinn said his brother-in-law and sister seemed nervous when they left.
Just before 2 a.m. Thursday, Powder Springs officers were called to what was believed to be a single-vehicle accident along Parks Drive near Sharon Drive. When they found the car, a red 2000 Pontiac Grand Am, backed into a ditch, officers found the couple.
Anthony, 24, had been shot multiple times and was dead from his injuries, police said. Catherine, 22, had also been shot and died after being taken to the hospital. Kinsley, 3, was not injured and temporarily placed in protective custody. On Friday, the little girl was back with family members, Boyd said.
Police have said the shootings were not random, but have declined to speculate on a possible motive for the deaths, the first homicides in Powder Springs since 2011.
Visitation for Catherine Costner was set for Tuesday evening at White Columns Funeral Home in Mableton. Her funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home chapel, followed by interment at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
Arrangements for Anthony Costner had not been finalized Tuesday afternoon.
