The Mississippi Bureau of Investigation has arrested a man in connection with the murder of two nuns in Durant, Mississippi.
Kosciusko resident Rodney Earl Sanders, 46, has been charged with two counts of capital murder in the deaths of Sister Margaret Held and Sister Paula Merrill, both 68.
The nuns were found Thursday stabbed to death inside their house after they failed to show up for work at a clinic in Lexington, about 10 miles from their home.
MBI Director Lt. Colonel Jimmy Jordan said investigators zeroed in on Sanders as a person of interest early in the investigation. Multiple law enforcement agencies worked with MBI to arrest Sanders.
"This heinous crime has been resolved," Jordan said.
Authorities did not immediately comment on a possible motive in the case.
Sanders is being held in an undisclosed detention center awaiting his initial court appearance.
