Alpharetta police are warning motorists about a possible blue-light predator.

A 16-year-old girl reported that she was stopped by a possible police impersonator on Kimball Bridge Road around 10 p.m. Sunday, said George Gordon, spokesman for Alpharetta Police Tuesday.

The girl said she stopped for a tan sedan after it activated red and blue emergency lights akin to ones on police vehicles; she quickly became suspicious after the man approached her driver’s window, Gordon said.

“The victim stated the male told her, ‘You were speeding,’ and then said to her “Can I get in?’” Gordon said. “The victim said, ‘No.’ The victim says the male then asked her to pull her vehicle over into the trees. Once again the female said, ‘No.’ At this point the female told the alleged police officer, ‘You’re not wearing badge. Are you a real cop?’ In response the male said, “Whatever” then walked to his vehicle and departed.”

The young woman described the man as white, five-feet, 10-inches tall and about 165 with a bald head and a thin dark beard. She said he was wearing a short-sleeve shirt and dark pants.

Alpharetta authorities are asking anyone with information regarding the possible suspect or vehicle to call the tip line at 678-297-6307 or submit tips by: visiting www.alpharetta.ga.us, clicking on “city departments,” and then on “public safety” and then click on “submit crime tips.”

Back in April a man accused of posing as a fake DEA agent stopped a real Doraville officer. The suspect has since been arrested and indicted.

If a motorist feels uneasy about stopping for a police officer, he or she should call 911 and advise the dispatcher who will relay the information to the patrol officer, Gordon said. He advised driving to a lighted area.
