An Acworth man will spend the next four decades in prison for a string of violent crimes he committed in Cherokee County, prosecutors said.
David Andre Wohlgemuth, 23, pleaded guilty to a bevy of felony charges in connection with two 2017 home invasions, as well as an attack on a Cherokee deputy once he was in jail.
On Nov. 3, 2017, Wohlgemuth burglarized an Acworth home, helping himself to jewelry and cash, prosecutors said. Four days later, he broke into a Ball Ground home, where he shot a woman in the head and face, AJC.com previously reported.

The woman survived the shooting but was left with “chronic injuries” that will likely cause her pain for the rest of her life, prosecutors said.
After police caught up with him for the home invasions and shooting, Wohlgemuth attacked a deputy inside the jail, the Cherokee County District Attorney’s Office said in a news release announcing his conviction.
“David Wohlgemuth has exhibited neither respect for the law, nor human decency,” said Deputy Chief Assistant DA Jennifer Gower, who prosecuted the case.
Wohlgemuth pleaded guilty to one count each of aggravated assault, aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, aggravated battery, armed robbery, burglary, home invasion, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a first offender probationer and theft by receiving stolen property, records show.
He was sentenced to 50 years, 40 behind bars and the remainder on probation, prosecutors said. As part of his sentence, he is required to receive mental health counseling and refrain from having any contact with his victims.
“This defendant was wreaking havoc on our community with increasingly violent crimes,” District Attorney Shannon Wallace said. “We are thankful for the great investigative work from the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office, which led to his arrest and ultimate sentence. Our community is safer with this defendant behind bars.”
