A 2013 bank robbery proved costly to two men sentenced Monday to life in prison.
Jonathan Quentin Irving and Chris Antoine Blackwell were convicted in November of armed robbery, 13 counts of aggravated assault, theft by taking and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, according to J.W. Hunt, Senior Assistant District Attorney of the Coweta Judicial Circuit.
The robbery occurred at a Wells Fargo branch in Carrollton. Two men, Gibran Ezell and a still-unidentified suspect, were accused or robbing the bank, firing a shot into the ceiling and threatening the life of a teller. They fled the scene in a getaway car that they promptly abandoned on a side street off nearby Almon Road, Hunt said.
Ezell and the second man were then picked up by Irving and Blackwell, authorities said. After a lengthy manhunt, Irving was apprehended in Jackson County with the firearm used in the robbery. Blackwell was caught from evidence developed by other witnesses, Hunt said.
Before their trial, Ezell entered a guilty plea and testified against his onetime accomplices. He will be sentenced at a later date, Hunt said.
