Cops: Man used alias to rape woman he met on dating app
She thought his name was Zach Anderson. And after connecting with him on a dating app, an Atlanta woman agreed to meet him at a restaurant on a summer afternoon.
The 26-year-old woman knows she had six beers before her date dropped her off at her car, according to a police report. The next thing she remembers is waking up on her own doorstep without her keys, cell phone or underwear, she told police.
At Grady Memorial Hospital, an exam determined the woman had been sexually assaulted, and the woman called police. That was June 21.
It took several months, but Atlanta police used DNA and phone records to link a suspect to the case. Turns out, his name wasn’t Zach Anderson.
On March 2, police arrested Devin Richard Hartman. Hartman, of Mableton, was charged with rape and aggravated sodomy and booked into the Fulton County jail, booking records showed. He spend his 40th birthday in jail.
The woman told police she believes she was drugged, causing her to be unable to remember most of the night, a police report states. But there was no indication of drugs in her system while at Grady, according to police.
Lt. Celeste Murphy told Channel 2 Action News that drugs could have been out of the woman’s system by the time the drug screening was done.
“There’s nothing that we can determine because of the time frame whether or not she had any drugs in her system that would have made her black out,” Murphy said.
Hartman was in court Monday for his arraignment, but was returned to jail until his bond hearing next month.
Police are now seeking other potential victims who may have had meetings with Hartman. Anyone with information on Hartman or who believes they may have been a victim is asked to contact Atlanta police.
