A woman shot in the back in Midtown was in stable condition Tuesday afternoon at Atlanta Medical Center, according to police. But the shooter remained on the run.
The woman, whose name was not released, was inside a black Chevrolet Cobalt car on Parkway Drive, near the intersection of North Avenue, when witnesses saw a man at her driver’s side door around 7 a.m., Atlanta police said. Minutes later, witnesses heard a single gunshot and watched the unidentified man run from the car.
A security guard at the nearby Red Roof Inn told police he had just gotten off duty and went outside to meet his girlfriend.
“He stated that they started talking while sitting in his car and about 10 minutes later he heard a gun shot,” the police report states.
The security guard chased after the suspect while his girlfriend called 911, according to police. The shooting suspect was able to escape, police said.
No shell casings were found outside the Chevrolet, but officers found a small hole in the driver’s seat. A napkin with a small glass pipe inside was found underneath the vehicle, according to police.
Officers were reviewing surveillance footage for more clues to the shooting and suspect’s identity. The suspect was described as a tall black man wearing a black skull cap and a red and green hoodie, witnesses told police.
