Two pedestrians were seriously injured in Clayton County when a driver lost control and his car jumped the curb onto a sidewalk and hit them, police said.

Deangelo Myers, 19, of Clarkston, was arrested at the scene of the crash early Wednesday morning and faces multiple charges, Clayton police announced on social media. The pedestrians, who were not identified, were taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

According to the initial investigation, officers responded to the intersection of Ga. 85 and Garden Walk Boulevard in Riverdale just before 12:30 a.m. At the scene, investigators found the two injured people and the driver, Myers, who remained there after the crash.

Myers told investigators that his tire blew out, causing him to drive onto the sidewalk, police said. No further details were provided about the investigation, but Myers was taken into custody on several charges, including two counts of serious injury by vehicle and one count each of DUI less safe, possession of marijuana, expired tag, no insurance and improper lane change.

Myers was booked into the Clayton County Jail early Wednesday and released on bond just before 12:30 p.m. Thursday, according to online records.
