A Conyers man who told investigators this week that Match.com hooked him up with bandits had been duped before when meeting women through the Internet.

The man and his date agreed to meet on Monday at a Country Inn and Suites in Rockdale County, according to a sheriff office report. His prior experience might have made him think a face-to-face rendezvous was safer than, say, making a nude video via Skype.

But instead of just meeting his potential paramour at his motel room, he was confronted by two women, one much taller and larger than the date’s profile —6-feet, 2-inches tall to the date’s 5-feet, 4-inches.

The larger woman made threats and the two women made off with $300 and the the man’s 2014 BMW 740 IL, said the sheriff’s report.

“He was just intimidated by the bigger girl,” Cpl. Michael Camp told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Thursday. “Meeting in a motel room with the cash he had on him….It sounds more like a prostitution arrangement than anything but I’m not sure.”

On Monday Cpl. David Kain noted the crime had initially been reported as an auto theft but after interviewing the man, the deputy ungraded it to a robbery.

Last May, the same man reported to the Rockdale Sheriff that he had been extorted by someone he knew only as “Pauleen Kool;” and the only thing he was certain about was that his extortionist had contacts overseas.

“He stated that he had met an individual in a chat room who then began a Skype video call with him.” Officer Gergory Clinton Johnson wrote in the May report. “A nude video was made and said to be recorded by Pauleen. The individual then told (the man) to send $500 to Francisco Cruz in the Philippines via Western Union or else they were going to send the video to all of his Facebook friends, including his wife.”

The victim was mostly concerned about his wife finding out about the scam, Johnson wrote.

“I explained to him I could not guarantee a result,” Johnson said.

The man, however, apparently had confidence in the sheriff’s office discretion. The good news for him is the BMW he lost Monday was recovered in a nearby parking lot.

The women, however, were long gone, Camp said.
