The Georgia Department of Transportation is once again this weekend encouraging motorists to avoid what could be lengthy delays through construction zones on the westside Perimeter and on I-20. Here’s what you need to remember to avoid those delays:

I-285 construction: Two lanes of I-285 southbound will be shut down between South Cobb Drive and Bolton Road, beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and continuing through 5 a.m. Monday.

South of there on I-285, two southbound lanes will be blocked during the same hours near Washington Road.

On the top-end Perimeter, work on sign structures will shut down two eastbound lanes of I-285 between Ga. 400 and Ashford Dunwoody Road and one westbound lane between Peachtree Dunwoody Road and Ga. 400 from 9 p.m. Friday through 7 a.m. Saturday.

I-20 closures: Two westbound lanes of I-20 will be closed in the area of Hamilton E. Holmes Drive, Lawton Street and Langhorn Street, from 9 p.m. Friday through 5 a.m. Monday.

In Rockdale County, two eastbound lanes of I-20 near Salem Road will be closed all weekend, while in Newton County, the westbound I-20 ramps at U.S. 278 will be closed.

Stellar weekend weather on tap: Sunny skies are forecast all weekend, according to Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton.

Afternoon highs will be in the low 70s Saturday and upper 60s Sunday, with morning lows in the upper 50s Saturday and upper 40s Sunday.

Weekend events: With Georgia Tech, the University of Georgia and the Falcons all playing on the road, the football focus will be on the Atlanta University Center campus, where Clark-Atlanta University plays Benedict College at 2 p.m. Saturday and Morehouse College plays Albany State University in a 2 p.m. Saturday homecoming game.

Other weekend events include a Hawks-Pistons preseason basketball game at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at Philips Arena and the Little Five Points Halloween Parade and Festival, which runs from noon until 11 p.m. Saturday, with the parade stepping off at 4 p.m. at Euclid and Moreland avenues. The Susan G. Komen 3-Day walk continues Saturday and concludes Sunday with a closing ceremony at Turner Field at 4:30 p.m.
