Citadel freshman fullback DaSean Daniels, from Lawrenceville, reportedly is in critical condition after collapsing at spring football practice Tuesday.

Daniels, who graduated from Greater Atlanta Christian School in 2012, was taken to the Medical University of South Carolina after the team's staff could not revive him, the Post and Courier reported.

Hospital officials told the newspaper that Daniels was in critical condition Wednesday after undergoing surgery Tuesday night.

His parents drove from Atlanta on Tuesday night to be with their son, who is majoring in business administration.

David Daniels told the Post and Courier that doctors said a vein in his son’s head became “detached” and started to bleed into his brain.

“He is getting better,” David Daniels said. “The doctors and nurses are very optimistic and say he is progressing a lot faster than they expected.”
