Three children escaped serious injury Thursday morning when they were hit by a sport utility vehicle while waiting at a Gwinnett County school bus stop, police said.

Gwinnett police Cpl. Michele Pihera said the incident happened shortly before 8 a.m. at the intersection of Francis Drive and Rockbridge Road.

Pihera said the injuries to the children, whose ages weren’t immediately available, were minor.

Gwinnett fire Capt. Tommy Rutledge said the children were taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta at Egleston for evaluation.

“They are believed to have sustained a glancing blow from an SUV that struck the curb at their school bus stop,” he said.

The driver of the SUV stayed on the scene, Pihera said.
