There’s a chance of showers and possibly thunderstorms as a cold front approaches Tuesday afternoon, but forecasters do not expect any severe storms.

Channel 2 meteorologist Karen Minton said the chance of rain Tuesday is 30 percent, with highs expected to climb into the mid-80s.

Wednesday will be mostly sunny, with highs around 83 after morning lows in the low 60s.

A few more clouds are expected Thursday, along with lows in the low 60s and highs in the low 80s.

There’s a 60 percent chance of rain Friday and Saturday, Minton said.

Temperatures will be cooler Friday, topping out around 77 before rebounding back to the low 80s on Saturday, she said.

Atlanta’s normal high for mid-May is 79, and the normal low is 59.

A large area of rain and thunderstorms moved across the northern suburbs before daybreak Tuesday, but for most of the metro area, the morning commute was dry.

The storms moved out of Paulding County into Cobb County after 5 a.m. before continuing into Cherokee and Forsyth counties.
