Just one day after cutting short a trip to South America because he wasn’t feeling well, former President Jimmy Carter made a Monday morning appearance at The Carter Center in Atlanta, where he welcomed participants in a summit aimed at ending sexual exploitation.

Carter is also expected to make closing remarks Tuesday afternoon at the two-day “World Summit: End Sexual Exploitation 2025” conference.

The 90-year-old former president raised concerns about his health Sunday when he returned early from Guyana, where he traveled Friday to observe elections that were scheduled for Monday.

“President Carter was not feeling well and has departed Guyana to return to Atlanta today,” The Carter Center announced on Sunday. “The Carter Center election observation mission in Guyana is continuing its work and will keep him informed of developments.”

The Carter Center has provided no further information on the Georgia native’s health.
