On Friday night, a man was shot and killed while driving in Houston with his two young sons in the car, according to reports.

The brothers, 8 and 6, told Houston police that they heard a loud noise around 11 p.m. and thought a rock had hit the car, KPRC reported.

After seeing their father slumped over in his seat, the brothers steered the SUV off the highway and onto a service road where they ran outside to seek help, KPRC reported. They were able to flag down a woman leaving a nearby Chili’s restaurant who called 911, according to the news outlet.

Neither of the boys were injured, and the boy’s father, 29, was pronounced dead at the scene, KPRC reported.

“We don’t know if it was a road rage incident. We are not real sure what exactly occurred,” Lt. R. Wilkins said to KPRC.

According to KPRC, the Houston Police Department’s Homicide Division is still investigating the fatal shooting.
