A pedestrian was struck by six vehicles and killed while trying to cross I-285 on Tuesday evening, authorities said.

The incident occurred in westbound lanes of the Perimeter at Old National Highway about 8 p.m., Georgia State Patrol spokeswoman Franka Young told AJC.com. Authorities have not identified the pedestrian killed.

All lanes of I-285 West were shut down while police investigated, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. The lanes reopened by 11 p.m.
