An 18-year-old pedestrian was killed Sunday after a car hit him and drove off in northwest Georgia, officials said.

Emory Ware was killed in the hit-and-run crash, Georgia State Patrol officials confirmed to AJC.com. The wreck happened about 1:20 a.m. at the intersection of Ga. 3 and Maddox Chapel Road in Whitfield County, GSP said.

A trooper on the scene found Ware and confirmed he had died, officials said.

Evidence in the roadway indicated that a Buick sedan was heading north on Ga. 3 while Ware was in the road. The car hit the teen and left the scene, GSP said.

The driver of the vehicle has not been located.

An investigation is ongoing.
