A 66-year-old woman died today after being hit by a Gwinnett County government van near the county’s judicial building, according to police.

Rama Sriram of Tucker was walking when she was hit by a van at Langley Drive and Constitution Boulevard, near the Gwinnett Justice and Administration Center, Capt. Jeff Smith with Lawrenceville police said. The intersection is a four-way stop, but it was not known if Sriram was in a crosswalk when she was hit, Smith told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Firefighters were called to the scene around 11:50 a.m., arriving to find the woman unresponsive and unconscious, Capt. Tommy Rutledge with the Gwinnett fire department said. Paramedics administered life-support measures before transporting Sriram to Gwinnett Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead.

The van, belonging to the county’s technical services department, was driven by a county employee who stopped at the scene, Smith said. The driver, whose name was not released, was interviewed by officers at the scene before being released, Smith said.

The investigation into the crash continues.
