The man accused in an armed robbery and firing shots toward deputies Friday afternoon was located a short time later in an abandoned house, the Paulding County Sheriff’s Office said.

The man, whose name was not released, attempted to steal farm equipment on Winn Road, near Douglasville, according Sgt. Ashley Henson.

“The suspect pointed a rifle at the complainant and then fled,” Henson said in an emailed statement. “Once deputies arrived on scene, the suspect pointed the rifle at the deputies from a distance.”

The man then dropped the gun on Bobby Austin Road and ran into woods on the Paulding-Douglas county line. Deputies and officers from both counties were searched Friday afternoon for the suspect, who was found in an abandoned house and arrested.

No injuries were reported.

Nearby South Paulding County High School was temporarily placed on lockdown during the search for the suspect, Henson said.
