A pedestrian died at a hospital Sunday after he ran into the road and was hit by an SUV, officials in Gwinnett County said.

Young Woo Kim, 23, had been in the hospital with life-threatening injuries since the wreck, which happened Saturday morning in unincorporated Buford, according to Gwinnett police spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera.

A gray Ford Escape was traveling westbound on Level Creek Road about 4:30 a.m. when Kim darted into the road, Pihera said. He was struck moments later.

“Investigators will be looking to see if Young Woo Kim was under the influence at the time of the incident,” she said.

The driver is not facing charges at this time.

An investigation is ongoing.

Donald Trump's administration deployed the military to Washington, D.C., in the name of fighting crime, and in an Aug. 11 news conference he mentioned the possibility of military being sent to other large American cities, all of which are led by Black, Democratic mayors. And while Atlanta wasn't included in Trump's list, the city fits that profile under Mayor Andre Dickens. (Photo Illustration: Philip Robibero / AJC | Source: Getty)
