A Whitfield County man was struck and killed by lightning at a Fourth of July celebration.

Egan Stanley, 37, of Dalton, died Monday at Grady Memorial Hospital after being struck by lightning at the Dalton Golf and Country Club.

A GoFundMe page was created by Brad Ramsey, who described himself as a friend of the family. More than $14,800 had been raised as of Wednesday afternoon. The goal is $15,000.

According to his obituary in the Daily Citizen-News, Stanley leaves behind his wife Kasonndra and two sons, Ty and Weston. He was a 1999 graduate of Southeast Whitfield High School and a lifelong resident of the area, the Daily Citizen-News reported.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Grove Chapel of Julian Peeples Funeral Home, the newspaper reported.

According to statistics compiled by the National Weather Service, there have been 13 lightning deaths in the United States this year.
