UPDATE [11 p.m.]: Wednesday night's winning Powerball numbers were 56, 53, 45, 21 and 3 with the Powerball being 22.
ORIGINAL STORY: The $1.537 billion Mega Millions ticket may not have been sold in Georgia, but 20 tickets worth $10,000 each were purchased right here in the Peach State, lottery officials said Wednesday.

Atlanta, Marietta and Tallapoosa each sold two $10,000 winners. The remaining tickets were bought in Athens, Buford, Conyers, Fort Valley, Hinesville, Kennesaw, LaGrange, Pooler, Rising Fawn, Sandy Springs, Savannah, Trenton, Villa Rica and Warner Robins.
Tuesday’s jackpot fell just short of the largest lottery jackpot of all time, according to officials. The winning numbers were 5, 28, 62, 65, 70 and Mega Ball 5. A ticket purchased in South Carolina matched all six of those numbers. It was sold at a convenience store in Simpsonville, about 14 miles southeast of Greenville, officials said.
However, the world may never learn who bought the ticket.
Like Georgia, winners in South Carolina, Delaware, Kansas, Maryland, North Dakota, Ohio and Texas can remain anonymous.

If you’re not one of the big winners, though, you still have a chance at some major cash. The jackpot for Wednesday’s Powerball drawing currently stands at $602.5 million. Each play costs $2.
And the jackpot for Friday’s Mega Millions drawing has been reset to $40 million.
You can watch both drawings right before the Channel 2 Action News Nightbeat at 11 p.m.
