A body was found by street sweepers Thursday night lying in the middle of a median on a busy southwest Atlanta highway.

The victim, identified as 28-year-old Bennie Watts, was found about 10:30 p.m. along Langford Parkway near the ramp to northbound I-285, according to Atlanta police. His injuries were consistent with being hit by a car.

Police are investigating the incident as a hit-and-run, Atlanta police Capt. Jessica Bruce told Channel 2 Action News from the scene.

No witnesses to the accident have come forward, and Bruce said they don’t know what kind of vehicle hit Watts or even when it happened. Homicide and traffic accident investigators responded to the scene Thursday night.

Watts was not wearing a shirt when he was hit, Bruce said. The shirt and the shoes were later located in the westbound lane of Langford Parkway.

Watts’ body was taken to the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s Office for further investigation.
