Gwinnett police have identified a man accused of scamming someone out of $31,000 online.
A tip that led police to Jack Oviedo, 25, of Buford, Gwinnett County police spokeswoman Cpl. Michele Pihera said. He faces felony theft by taking charges.
According to police, on Nov. 3, an Auburn man wired $31,400 to Oviedo through a BB&T account to purchase a 2013 Infinity QX56.
Police say the two made the arrangement online when Oviedo was thought to be an out-of-state dealer.
Oviedo allegedly told the man the car would arrive to him in a week, but the car was never delivered and police say Oviedo stopped communicating with the buyer.
The money was later traced to a BB&T account that was opened under a fake identity.
Police say Oviedo withdrew funds from several metro Atlanta locations, including a BB&T on Braselton Highway in Dacula.
It is possible Oviedo fled Georgia, but police have not said to where.
Anyone with information about his whereabouts is asked to call Gwinnet County Police Department at 770-513-5300. Tipsters can also remain anonymous, and be eligible for rewards of up to $2,000, by contacting Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-8477, texting information to 274637 or visiting crimestoppersatlanta.org.
