A predawn fire Thursday caused minor damage to the exterior of a Buford Highway bar.

DeKalb County firefighters got a call from a passerby around 6:30 a.m. saying that there was smoke coming from behind the Rush Lounge in the 2700 block of Buford Highway, according to DeKalb fire Battalion Chief Paul Daniel.

Arriving firefighters found a "small fire with heavy smoke" behind the building that was quickly doused, Daniel said.

"All the damage appears to be on the outside of the structure," Daniel said. He said a deck had been built on the back of the building, and the fire burned part of the deck and extended into the building's facade.

"There's no damage on the inside," he said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
