UPDATE: Pedestrian struck, killed on Clayton County roadway

A pedestrian was hit by a vehicle and killed early Tuesday on North Avenue in Jonesboro, according to Clayton County police.

The deadly accident happened about 4:30 a.m. A short stretch of North Avenue was closed between Tara Boulevard and Ga. 138 while police investigated.

The driver of the vehicle remained on the scene, police spokeswoman Officer Marcena Davis said.

Authorities have not released the names of those involved.

“The investigation is still ongoing and any charges are still pending,” Davis said in a news release.

This is the second pedestrian accident for Clayton County police in as many days. On Monday, a Jonesboro High School student was hit at Ga. 138 and Jonesboro Road while he was walking to graduation practice, Channel 2 Action News reported.

Michael Taylor was in the crosswalk when he was hit, according to Channel 2. He suffered minor injuries and was treated at Atlanta Medical Center.

His brother told the news station Taylor was released from the hospital Monday afternoon.
