The pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run on Old National Highway Monday morning has been identified by the Fulton County Medical Examiner’s office.

Demonte Franklin, 20, of Atlanta, was hit by a car at the intersection of Old National Highway and Jerome Road.

Witnesses helped officers catch the driver a short time later, Channel 2 Action News reported. The unidentified driver was in police custody Monday, but no information on possible charges was released.

“This is in the preliminary stages of investigation and no further information will be provided at this time,” South Fulton police Cpl. Maureen Smith told Channel 2.

The incident was one of two deadly hit-and-runs in metro Atlanta in a span of nearly eight hours. A man was hit by a car and killed while crossing Rockbridge Road in DeKalb County late Sunday. No one is in custody in that case.
