A domestic dispute in Henry County ended with a woman mending a gunshot wound, a three-vehicle wreck, two schools on lockdown and an hourslong manhunt.
It all kicked off about 1 p.m. Thursday, when a woman was shot following a domestic dispute in the area of Racetrack and Iris Lake roads, according to Henry County spokesman Randy Lee.
The woman got into a car and tried to drive away, Channel 2 Action News reported. That’s when she was involved in a three-car wreck that shut down a portion of Racetrack Road. Those in the other cars suffered minor injuries.
The woman was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she is stable, police said. Her name has not been released.
A man ran away from the shooting scene, which led authorities to search a wooded area in the 500 block of Racetrack Road behind a Publix supermarket, police said. He was later identified as 30-year-old Ian Massey.

The manhunt prompted nearby McDonough Middle School and McDonough High School to be placed on a hard lockdown as officers searched the area, the county’s school district said.

“Everyone is safe and secure,” a district spokesman said. “The activity being handled by law enforcement is not on campus, but the hard lockdown is out of an abundance of caution.”
Students were held for more than two hours after their scheduled release before the schools began a “controlled release.” The sheriff’s office said students who lived near the search area were taken by bus to the Academy of Advanced Studies due to road closures.
The affected areas included Iris Lake Village, Cedar Road, Pine Street, Town Park Drive, Angie Drive, Sarah’s Bend and Greystone Drive. All parents of the affected students were notified, the district said.
About 6:15 p.m., police said Massey was taken into custody. He was arrested on a charge of aggravated assault.
During the manhunt, an ambulance was seen leaving the wooded area where officers were searching, Channel 2 reported. No information was released on the injured person or their condition.
