Power restored to major Midtown street after utility pole snaps

Power was restored to a busy stretch of Spring Street on Monday, hours after a snapped power pole blocked the road and disabled multiple traffic signals.
According to Atlanta police, a vehicle hit the pole and knocked out power to the area, taking out traffic signals from North Avenue to Third Street. The impact left the pole teetering above several lanes of Spring Street.
The driver, who was not identified, told officers she left the roadway after she was cut off in traffic by another vehicle, police spokesman Officer Jarius Daugherty said. She was cited for failure to maintain lane.
UPDATE: All lanes on Spring Street are now open. Power has been restored to all traffic lights that were down.

Authorities shut down the street at Third Street and forced traffic to turn left onto Third for the bulk of the morning commute, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. Just before 11 a.m., Georgia Power completed repairs and two lanes of Spring Street reopened.
The remaining lanes were reopened just after noon, police said.
