North Carolina couple Eleanor and Frank Turner, both 87, recently died on the same day after nearly 65 years of marriage, according to a report in the Charlotte Observer.

Eleanor died early Friday morning while in hospice care in Monroe, N.C. Just as daughter Linda Purser was considering how to break the news to her father, she received a call from his nursing home that he had died, the newspaper reported.

Purser told the newspaper her parents had “a good, strong” marriage.

“They loved each other, and you could always tell they were proud to be out together,” she said. “They were just meant for each other.”

The couple would have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on Christmas Eve.
