More than a dozen residents were displaced after a fire Friday afternoon at an apartment complex in Norcross, authorities said.

The fire at the Bella Apartments at 2445 Beaver Ruin Road affected eight units and was extinguished by Gwinnett County crews about 4:30 p.m., according to Capt. Tommy Rutledge. Dispatch received the call just before 2 p.m.

There was heavy damage to the attic, roof and four top floor apartment units, Gwinnett fire said.

The American Red Cross provided emergency assistance to approximately 30 residents who were displaced by the damage, according to American Red Cross of Georgia’s Regional Communication Director Sherry Nicholson. The organization ensured essentials such as food, clothing and temporary housing were available to the families, Nicholson said.

“There’s pretty extensive damage throughout the apartment building,” Rutledge told AJC.com.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is still being investigated.
