Two Griffin police officers were injured Tuesday morning when a commercial vehicle ran a red light and hit their patrol car, according to authorities.

Veteran Officer Amanda Frix was flown to Atlanta Medical Center with serious injuries, the Griffin Police Department said in a news release posted on the agency’s Facebook page. She is stable. Officer Erin McAdams, a rookie who was undergoing field training with Frix, was treated at Wellstar Spalding Regional Hospital and released, according to police.

“Both are expected to make a full recovery,” the department said.

The preliminary investigation indicates the commercial vehicle ran the red light at the intersection of Ga. 16 and Hammond Drive, hitting the patrol car on the driver’s side about 5:30 a.m., police said. The commercial vehicle kept going until it flipped. Police did not provide information about the driver.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident.
