Bond was denied Tuesday for the man charged with killing a Griffin police officer during a scuffle outside a Waffle House in June.

Spalding County Superior Court Judge Christopher Williams ordered during Tuesday morning’s hearing that Michael D. Bowman remain jailed without bond.

Bowman, 30, is charged with felony murder in the June 1 shooting death of Griffin police Officer Kevin Jordan.

The officer, a 43-year-old father of seven, was working security at the Waffle House at 1702 North Expressway in Griffin when Bowman and two others caused a disturbance and were asked to leave, Griffin police said. An altercation spilled into the parking lot, where Jordan was shot as he tried to arrest Bowman’s 29-year-old girlfriend, Chantell Mixon.

Griffin police said Jordan was on the ground trying to restrain Mixon when he was shot in the back, allegedly by Bowman.

Mixon was also charged with felony murder. She was denied bond at a June 26 hearing.
