We’re still about 30 days away from the official start of summer, but metro Atlanta is getting a preview as we approach Memorial Day weekend.

“High temperatures approaching 90 degrees this week, and by the weekend, a return to some summertime scattered showers and storms as we head into the unofficial start to summertime — that’s Memorial Day weekend,” Channel 2 Action News meteorologist Brian Monahan said.

Summer officially starts June 20 at 4:50 p.m.

Tuesday’s high temperatures will climb into the mid 80s, and while we will have some clouds around, there are 13 hours of sunshine in the forecast.

“Overall, we’ll have a lot of sunshine through the day for your Tuesday,” Monahan said.

There is just a 10% chance of showers, mostly in northeast Georgia.

We’ll have a repeat of conditions on Wednesday with just a few more clouds in the sky. No rain is in the forecast then, but Thursday will bring a 20% chance of a shower or storm to the north of the city.

Friday will bring more showers. There is a 40% chance of scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon. The rain chance drops to 30% on Saturday, and it stays that way all the way through Memorial Day.

Temps will stay in the upper 80s throughout the week.
