Tired of 2021? Enjoy a bit of escapism and take an excursion through the Middle Ages at a fair near Gwinnett County.

The Braselton Medieval Faire will take place 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Oct. 9-10 at the Braselton Town Green. The free event will feature living history demonstrations with examples of daily life, cooking, music, the arms, armor and martial culture from the 11th century Battle of Hastings to the start of the Tudors’ reign in the 15th century.

The event will also include vendors and hands-on demonstrations. Three presentations will occur on both days — A Muse of Fire: English Language from Medieval to Modern at 12 p.m.; Time in a Battle: Arms and Armor of the Battle of Hastings at 2 p.m.; and Shakespeare’s Soldiers: Arms and Armor of Shakespeare’s History Plays at 4 p.m.

Braselton, a town on the edge of Barrow, Gwinnett, Hall and Jackson counties, will partner with History Now Director Ken Johnston and his group of historians and reenactors for the event. The town will also host a November renaissance fair on the Town Green with the help of Johnston.
