Henry County on Monday swore in new top leaders for the south metro Atlanta community’s police and public safety departments.

Former Henry Police Chief Mark Amerman was sworn in as the county’s public safety director while former Henry Police Deputy Chief Mike Ireland took the oath as the new Henry Chief of Police. Henry County Police Major Jason Bolton was sworn in as deputy chief of police.

“I am truly humbled at the opportunity to lead the brave men and women of Henry County’s Public Safety,” said Amerman, who has served in the police department for 29 years.

Said Ireland, who has been with the department for 19 years, “I would like to thank the men and women of Henry County Police Department for what they do each and every day. Thank you for what you do because you guys are the backbone of this department.”

Bolton said he never imagined his journey in law enforcement would lead him to become deputy chief of police.

“We have without a doubt some of the finest men and women in law enforcement who work for our agency, and I am very proud to serve alongside them,” Bolton, a 30-year policing veteran, said.
