Investigators believe a fire that caused heavy damage to a 131-year-old Jackson County building early Friday was set.

Firefighters were called around 4:20 a.m. to the historic Hoschton Train Depot, located on Ga. 53, the Georgia Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner said.

Investigators believe the fire was started at the back door of the building, which should be salvageable, the Jackson Herald reported. Hoschton is located about 50 miles northeast of Atlanta.

“We are in great hopes that we can build it back,” Hoschton mayor Theresa Kenerly told the newspaper. “There are only certain parts that were burnt so badly that we’ll have to replace it. But, we have such a great community, I know we’re going to come together and everybody’s going to pitch in. We’re going to get it back the way it used to be or even better.”

Anyone with information about this fire to call the Arson Hotline at 800-282-5804. A reward of up to $10,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of those responsible.
