erman Chancellor Angela Merkel gives a statement to the media following the revelation by French authorities that the co-pilot of Germanwings flight 4U9525 was inside the locked cockpit of the plane during its final descent and crash two days ago on March 26, 2015 in Berlin, Germany. According to authorities the co-pilot, identified as Andreas Lubitz, had to have initiated the plane's rapid descent and refused entry to the cockpit to the pilot, who was locked on the other side of the door. German Chancellor Angela Merkel says news that the co-pilot is believed to have intentionally crashed the plane gives the Germanwings tragedy a "new, simply incomprehensible dimension."

Merkel said that "something like this goes beyond anything we can imagine." She underlined a pledge that German authorities will do "everything imaginable to support the investigations."
