Four teenagers and a youth from Tennessee were arrested in Georgia after police found them riding in a stolen vehicle and carrying three stolen guns in Marietta on Friday night, authorities said.
Police said when they spotted a stolen Honda Civic being driven on North Marietta Parkway, officers and investigators coordinated swiftly to stop the car at the intersection of Cobb Parkway around 10:15 p.m. As authorities blocked the Civic, the driver placed the vehicle in reverse and struck one of Marietta police’s unmarked cars, the agency wrote in a Facebook post.
According to officers, the driver, 19-year-old Martez Delaney, admitted to stealing the car, while another person in the vehicle said their normal way of operating is to “break into cars.” The suspects also told police they were in Marietta for less than an hour and they planned to book a hotel in the city.
Police said they recovered the stolen car and three stolen guns.
According to Marietta police spokesman Officer Chuck McPhilamy, the youth was reported missing out of Tennessee. The three other passengers were 19-year-old Martel Delaney, 19-year-old Jordan Davis and 17-year-old Jakel Woods, McPhilamy told AJC.com.
The youth was booked into Marietta’s Youth Detention Center, while the rest of the crew were taken to the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.
The four teens are facing various charges, ranging from fleeing, damage to government property, theft by receiving stolen firearm, theft by taking, transporting stolen property across state lines, Violation of the Georgia Controlled Substances Act marijuana and improper backing up, according to the post.
