TRAFFIC ALERT: Busy DeKalb road blocked after train and tractor-trailer crash
A train collided with a tractor-trailer at a busy DeKalb County intersection early Friday, forcing some commuters to find another way to get on I-20.
The wreck happened just after 5 a.m. at the intersection of Turner Hill Road and Covington Highway, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation. The area is just north of I-20 near the Mall at Stonecrest.
Turner Hill is blocked in both directions, while traffic on Covington is still getting by, though slowly, as of 7:15 a.m.
The tractor-trailer was hauling cars, according to the WSB 24-hour Traffic Center. Its cab was mangled by the impact.
The semitruck driver told the Traffic Center that he had already exited the cab and was uninjured. DeKalb police have not said if any other injuries have been reported.
It’s not clear when the scene may be cleared. Commuters can use Evans Mill or Sigman roads as alternates. Getting on I-20 at another entrance is also a good option.
